Providing Scholarships and Related Financial Assistance for Low-Income, Minority Students at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco.

“Instead of being just a church that welcomes and receives by keeping the doors open, let us try also to be a church that is able to step outside itself, that finds new roads…“ — Pope Francis

As alumni of St. Ignatius College Preparatory from an earlier era, we have great memories of a diverse student population — in social and economic status and ethnicity. During our student years, our diversity and our differences became assets, and the social and academic skills we developed prepared us for negotiating the world into which we graduated.

Today, St. Ignatius College Preparatory is an even better academic institution than the high school from which we were sent forth years ago. But the larger, co-educational student body, and the increased operational costs have raised the tuition beyond the reach of most lower and many middle-income families. In essence, it is less accessible to those who traditionally have benefitted most from its prodigious opportunities.

The New Roads Education Fund aims to change that. We want St. Ignatius’ premiere educational opportunity to be available for a new generation who, like us, are from modest, largely working class families.

To do so, we have established a mechanism to raise “pay as you go” money for qualified low-income, minority applicants to St. Ignatius College Preparatory. We invite qualified 8th grade students to apply for financial assistance. We welcome donors to contribute to their support.
